South Korea is accelerating the adoption of AI healthcare systems by investing in new technologies across regional hospitals. The latest government initiative supports the deployment of AI healthcare systems that enhance diagnosis, improve patient monitoring, and reduce administrative workloads, strengthening healthcare services throughout the country.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it will allocate 12 billion won to regional responsible medical institutions as part of its AI-based care system support program. Additional projects focus on medical imaging. Chonbuk National University Hospital and Pusan National University Hospital will introduce AI-assisted diagnostic support capable of identifying suspected lung disease and cancer by analyzing chest X-rays and computed tomography (CT) images. These systems are intended to improve the accuracy and efficiency of clinicians’ image interpretation while supporting earlier identification of serious illnesses.
Other participating institutions will deploy specialized AI applications. Gyeongsang National University Hospital plans to implement AI for the early diagnosis of stroke and dementia, while Jeju National University Hospital will use AI to evaluate coronary artery stenosis from chest CT images, supporting the assessment of cardiovascular disease risk.
The initiative also includes AI tools that streamline clinical documentation. Chonnam National University Hospital, Chungnam National University Hospital, and Chonbuk National University Hospital will introduce AI-powered medical record systems capable of automatically generating clinical notes from spoken conversations between healthcare professionals and patients. By reducing administrative burdens, these solutions allow medical staff to devote more time to direct patient care.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, expanding AI adoption is intended to strengthen healthcare capabilities at regional medical institutions while improving access to advanced diagnostic and patient management technologies. South Korea is taking a significant step toward expanding its hydrogen infrastructure through a new government-backed research project focused on large-scale liquid hydrogen storage systems. The initiative centers on the development of advanced liquid hydrogen storage technology, a key component for supporting the country’s growing hydrogen economy and future energy transition goals.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) announced that it has been selected to participate in a national research and development project led by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The project aims to secure essential technologies for liquid hydrogen storage, transfer, and unloading systems required for future hydrogen receiving terminals, while also validating these technologies through demonstration activities. Hydrogen storage systems usually require KGS certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Korea.

A major objective of the project is the development of South Korea’s first flat-bottom liquid hydrogen storage tank. This storage concept, commonly used in large-scale LNG applications, is expected to provide a foundation for future expansion to storage capacities of approximately 4,000 cubic meters and eventually 50,000 cubic meters.
The government-funded project has a budget of approximately KRW 29 billion and will run for around 45 months from April 2026 through December 2029. Hyundai E&C will collaborate with 13 additional industry, academic, and research organizations, including Korea Gas Corporation, Korea Gas Technology Corporation, and Korea Gas Safety Corporation.
Liquid hydrogen is produced by cooling gaseous hydrogen to approximately -253°C, requiring highly sophisticated insulation, structural engineering, and construction technologies to maintain cryogenic conditions. As part of the project, participants will develop metal material property databases, structural and insulation design technologies, thermal transfer and fluid flow analysis methods, and engineering design criteria for liquid hydrogen storage facilities.
The project also includes the construction and demonstration of a 200-cubic-meter storage tank to evaluate storage performance, reduce boil-off gas generation, and strengthen safety technologies. These developments are expected to support future regulatory frameworks and technical requirements applicable to hydrogen storage infrastructure in Korea.
For manufacturers, engineering companies, and infrastructure developers, the initiative signals growing regulatory and technical attention toward liquid hydrogen technologies. CERAGEM has introduced the Master V5, a new spine care medical device in South Korea, expanding its portfolio of products certified under the MFDS regulatory framework. The launch reflects continuing demand for non-invasive spine health solutions and highlights the importance of regulatory approval for medical devices entering the Korean market.
According to the company, the Master V5 is designed for users experiencing early-stage lower back discomfort and incorporates CERAGEM’s proprietary Curve Spine Tech (CST) Ceracore engine. The system utilizes sequential movement of first- and second-row jade massage heads to provide spinal traction and support muscle relaxation. South Korea is advancing the adoption of hydrogen forklifts through a new support initiative in Jeju Province, reinforcing efforts to reduce emissions from industrial and construction equipment. The program forms part of a broader transition toward zero-emission machinery and is designed to lower particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions while improving the carbon footprint of worksite operations.
Jeju Province announced that it will allocate approximately KRW 420 million in 2026 to support the purchase of 12 zero-emission forklifts, including two hydrogen-powered units and ten electric models. The selected applicants will receive financial assistance based on the order in which applications are submitted. Hydrogen drives as used for such forklifts usually require KGS certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Korea.

Under the program, two 3-ton hydrogen forklift models manufactured by Doosan Bobcat Korea are eligible for support. Each hydrogen forklift can receive a subsidy of approximately KRW 160 million. According to the announcement, only ten hydrogen forklifts have previously been deployed nationwide, including units supplied in Incheon, Chungju, and Ulsan, highlighting the early stage of market adoption.
The electric forklift segment covers 29 eligible models ranging from 2.5-ton to 9-ton capacity. These models are supplied by HD Hyundai Site Solutions and Clark Material Handling Asia. Depending on the specific model, financial support ranges from approximately KRW 4 million to KRW 25 million per unit.
Eligible models and subsidy levels can be verified through Korea’s integrated zero-emission vehicle information platform. Applications for purchase support must be submitted through the relevant manufacturer or importer when acquiring approved zero-emission construction machinery.
The Jeju initiative reflects South Korea’s wider policy objective of replacing conventional internal-combustion equipment with cleaner alternatives. As authorities continue promoting hydrogen technologies and electrification across industrial sectors, manufacturers and importers of material-handling equipment may encounter increasing opportunities in the Korean market.
For hydrogen-powered forklifts, compliance with applicable Korean safety and technical requirements remains an important consideration. KGS certification, where required, plays a key role in demonstrating conformity with national gas safety regulations and supporting market access for hydrogen-related equipment.
